The Ashéninka Team was formed to take the good news of God's Word to the Ashéninka people. The goal is to see a church planting movement among this people group.
Marty and Dena McAnally Marty and Dena McAnally are career missionaries with the IMB. They came to the Ashéninka Team in 1999 after years of serving churches in the states as Minister of Missions. They have been married for 19 years. Their son, Jacob, is 16 years old and loves sports and plays guitar. Berta Oyiya recently joined the family; she is 12 years old, Ashéninka, and comes from the settlement of Yarina Isla. She and Jacob attend Christian schools in Pucallpa. The McAnallys also have a pet monkey named Rosa, another monkey named Joaquin, a dachshund named Jetta, and a Labrador retriever named Moca.
Quilmer Ríos Quilmer Ríos lives in Atalaya, Peru, and is an Asháninka (a dialect group of similar tradition and culture to the Ashéninka). Quilmer has been serving with us since our return to the Ucayali River in June 2005. He is young, but possesses a Godly wisdom that surpasses his youth. We're thankful for Quilmer's deep desire to serve the Lord and His willingness to sacrifice to do so.
Ashéninka Leaders These are the men and women who will carry on the work long after the missionaries are gone. They are people just like all of us who are trying to care for their families, though under more difficult conditions than many of us. These are the ones in whom we invest our time and energies so that they may be equipped to share the Word of God and the Gospel of Jesus Christ in their own language.
Prayer Warriors As important as the physical work of the Ashéninka Team and their actual presence in Perú, are the prayers of the Team's prayer supporters. Those who pray for the Ashéninka people and the work of the Team number in the thousands. Each is an invaluable link between the People Group and the Team, and the throne of God. We depend on the Lord's strength to do this work. Our work is worthless without the Lord's hand on it. It is He who produces all the fruit.
